In 2012, Artemis Pyrpilis travels to Corsica to visit for the last time her grandmother, Gramie, who is in the final stages of an illness. There, and for the first time, she photographs her family and the intimate setting in an atmosphère of intense emotional charge, full of anticipation and awkwardness. Faces and things commingle with the landscape in a melting pot of memories during her stay in Corsica while the anticipation of the inevitable marks a transformation within her, a shift towards awareness.
GRAMIE comes to light ten years after her grandmother’s passing and includes images from their last meeting in Corsica, archival photographs and drawings from a zoology notebook of her grandmother’s, an unexpected legacy that sparked the urge for this publication.
